According to a 1999 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report, AIDS is now the number one killer of African-Americans between the ages of 25 and 44.

The HIV Outreach Prevention Education (H.O.P.E.) Project is a health education resource for Houston's Black communities.   Founded in 1995, the Hope Project provides culturally competent and affirming programming for HIV, AIDS and other diseases that disproportionally impact Black people.    The HOPE Project targets men who have sex with men, Lesbians, Bisexual men and women, and gay men with a wide variety of services designed to create and support an informed and healthy community.
